Solar Thermal- Residential System

For solar water heating for the home we recommend the Enerworks flat plate collector. This collector works well producing large volumes of hot water. The collector cooling feature keeps the collector from overheating in the summer so you can have worry- free operation year round.

Sizing the installation: You should always consider professional advice for sizing all the components needed for a solar water heating system. With a few small calculations you will be able to get a good idea of what's required in terms of collectors and storage tanks.

Most households require 2 or 3 collectors depending on their hot water consumption. Generally people use roughly 20 gallons (75 liters) of hot water per day. As a rule, use 20 Gal (75L) for each of the first two people and 15 Gal (57L) each for the rest. This gives you a good indication on how big your storage tank should be. For example: 4 people = 70 Gal (265L)

A solar thermal system is an affordable way to lower energy bills and help the environment at the same time. After installation, your solar thermal system will provide many years of free energy provided by the sun.

Upcoming Seminars

  • There are many myths and misunderstandings surrounding solar thermal collectors. What type? How many? Etc. Concerns like this require interaction and can be addressed by one of our staff delivering a presentation to your group as an introduction to solar thermal or, if you wish, something more in depth. We are happy to answer any questions you may have. Please call or email us to arrange for a seminar.
